Year 11 Study Leave, Summer 2012

Dear Parent/Carer

Year 11 will officially go on study leave after Friday 1st June 2012. Although year 11 will have started their exams we feel that it will be more beneficial for the students to be in school attending revision sessions lead by their teachers. Students will attend their exams and then return to their timetabled class. If this is a lesson where the student has completed the exam it is advised that the students bring revision material to that lesson so they can use this time to revise for their next exam. After the half term, year 11 students will attend school purely for their exams and leave the site having completed their exam. If year 11 students are staying at Biddenham for 6th Form they can attend the 6th Form taster days, however they will not attend school until September when the new academic year starts.

Kind regards

Miss Lockhart
Head of Year 11

Biddenham Students Beating the Kenyan Olympic Athletes

On Monday 23rd April, 12 lucky Biddenham students earned the right to run a mile with some of the Kenyan Olympic team. The students chosen were students who had been part of the marathon running team and achieved Athlete of the Week in the Olympic year 2012.

Despite the weather the students were very excited about competing with top international athletes. The Kenyans among the runners were Mary Keitany (world record holder for 10 miles), Geoffrey Kiprono Mutai (2011 New York City Marathon winner), Edna Kiplagat (2011 IAAF World Champion in the marathon and 2nd in the 2012 London Marathon), Emmanuel Kipchirchir Mutai (6th fastest man ever over 42 kms), Patrick Makau Musyoki (world record marathon runner) and Abel Kirui (back-to-back winner of the world champs marathon in 2009 and 2011 and 6th in the 2012 London Marathon).

The mile was completed around Bedford Park with other local school students. From the start the Biddenham students lead the pack with a number beating the Kenyans and Sarah Kerr beating everyone by a fair distance!
