Exams for Year 11 GCSE Drama Students
You may already be aware that your son or daughter is due to sit a controlled assessment exam for Drama in January 2012. This means that, rather than completing coursework at home, they will be expected to plan a piece of drama and evaluate their plan in school, under controlled exam conditions. They will also perform their work after school on 5th and 6th January as part of this unit 2 coursework.
As a department, we believe that this makes formal assessment much fairer because all students are given same opportunity to prepare and the same conditions in which to produce their final piece of performance and written work. However, it also makes it essential that students are present for the controlled assessment sessions. I am writing to inform you of the key dates for this important assessment.
In order to complete the controlled written work, students will sit controlled conditions written work in all their lessons from Tuesday 3rd January to Friday 13th January.
In order that students get time to achieve the best performance levels, we will be asking all year 11 Drama students to commit to some time after school to perform their final devised dramas either on the 5th and 6th January 2012 from 2:45pm to 5pm.
All Year 11 written and practical coursework must be completed by 13th January 2012.
Students may also be given an opportunity to showcase their performances on 9th January 2012 to parents, guardians and friends. We look forward to seeing you at the exam showcase if your son or daughter is chosen to showcase their work.
If you have any questions regarding controlled assessment in Drama, please do not hesitate to contact me.
