Information About the Department

The Law department offers GCSE Law to years 9-12 and A Level Law to years 12-14. It is also making provision to run BTEC Applied Law at Level 3 from September 2012.

The department has three dedicated classrooms and regular use of the school's computer suites. Resources are up to date and tailored to the needs of students.

There are opportunities for students to become involved in mock trial competitions at the Magistrates' and County Court, workshops run by Lawyers in Schools as well as the Crown Prosecution Service. We also invite guest speakers such as police officers, magistrates and lawyers. Educational visits to the courts are also undertaken in order to make learning more practical.

The department is flexible, creative and adept at designing learning sequences within lessons and across lessons that are effective and consistently well-matched to learning objectives and the needs of learners and which integrate recent developments relating to subject/curriculum knowledge. The Head of Department is Senior Examiner with a major examining body. The team have teaching skills which lead to learners achieving well relative to their prior attainment, making progress as good as, or better than, similar learners nationally.
