Food, Textiles and Child Development Department

Print

Headline Information

This is a very friendly and supportive department and we work hard to give as much help to the students as possible.
In 2011 our students achieved an A grade pass rate of 12% in Textiles and 13% in Child Development.

Information About the Department

We have 6 hours timetabled per fortnight with every student in all three subjects; Food, Textiles and Child Development. In addition we offer catch-up sessions after school each week.

In Food at least 50% of the time is devoted to students developing and practising their practical skills. We have a fully equipped kitchen and students are encouraged to experiment and be creative with their dishes.

In Textiles students are given the opportunity to discover, through practical work, which area they have an interest in, by covering decorative products, furnishings, accessories and clothing. They can then utilise this strength in their coursework.

In Child Development students are able to experience looking after a baby using the virtual babies we have in the department. Also, where possible we do invite in guests to bring in their babies so
that students can see how a baby is bathed, etc. The department also works closely with the PLACE Project enabling their students to access the Child Development GCSE.
