Important Notification for Parents and Carers

Please be aware that your son or daughter is scheduled to sit their Controlled Assessment Essay w/c Monday 6th February.

  • Students in Miss Bissell’s 11N/H1 class and Mrs Warburton’s 11K/H1 class will be sitting the assessment on Monday 6th February.
  • Students in Miss Bissell’s 11L/H1 class and Mr Tierney’s 11M/H1 class will be sitting the assessment on Tuesday 7th February.

We will be inviting students to arrive on the day from 7.30am for a prompt start at 8am and they will work on their Controlled Assessment essay until 5.30pm as detailed in the schedule below:

07:30 - 08:30 Teacher preparation with IT support
Students arrive and prepare their notes and resources
08:00 - 09:30 Session 1 (1hr 30mins)
09:50 - 11:05 Break
11:15 - 12:30 Session 2 (1hr 15mins)
12:30 - 13:15 Break
13:15 - 14:30 Session 3 (1hr 15mins)
14:30 - 16:45 Break
14:45 - 16:00 Session 4 (1hr 15mins)
16:00 - 16:15 Break
16:15 - 17:30 Session 5 (1hr 15mins)

The schedule above allows students 6 hours and 30 minute to complete the essay. Additional time of up to 8 hours will be available for all students who require it. In this instance students will need to register in R3 on Wednesday 8th February at 2.30pm. Students who are entitled to additional time due to SEN will be able to complete their essay on Thursday 9th February after school.

Controlled assessment is worth 25% of your son / daughter’s final grade in GCSE History. We are therefore asking for your support in ensuring that students are present for the controlled assessment off timetable day. If students are absent due to illness they will have to sit the Controlled Assessment at an alternative time following half term.
