Dear Parents and Carers
Our SCRIPT for Experience days continue this academic year and the second one is on Friday February 3rd with a key focus on the continued development of the personal, learning and thinking skills of our students. As ever, we aim to produce young people who have the skills and ability to cope with the demands of a complex, fast moving and ever-changing society and we strongly believe that our work in this area will help develop those skills.
Each year group are focussing on key themes that will be explored and students will develop a greater understanding of the importance of these key skills and how they can apply them to the tasks set.
The focus of each theme is outlined below.
The Year 9 groups are focussing on:
- Creativity: Design solutions for improving an area of the school. Letter to parents.
- Health: Understanding and designing opportunities to improve the health of students.
- Cultural Diversity: Developing an understanding of the Biddenham community.
- Enterprise: Researching and developing a product within a specific budget.
- Ecoday: Developing an understanding of the local environmental issues. Letter to parents.
The Year 10 groups are focussing on:
- Community: 'What is a community?' A trip outside of the school gates to experience a flavour of life in our community, to hear from the people who live and work there, and to reflect on what we have learnt about the many different aspects that make up a community. Letter to parents.
- ICT: Bias in the media.
- Relationships: Involving key external partners, students will identify and discuss how to support peers and mange one's own ability to develop relationships.
- Self-esteem: Recognition and understanding of the importance of improving one’s own self-esteem.
Year 11 are focussing on:

The Sixth Form are focussing on:
A lecture style approach followed by seminar tasks applied to the lecture. The February focus is ‘wellbeing’.
We are keen to involve parents and carers in these days and would be pleased if:
a) any of you could come in and observe a whole or part of a day on February 3rd or
b) if you are keen to assist in the delivery or facilitating small groups on February 3rd or
c) If you feel you have an employment background in one of the above themes we would be pleased to be able to discuss ideas and knowledge you have to enhance the day further.
If you are interested in any of the above options please complete the form attached to this letter and return it via the school reception to Mrs M Jackson by January 27th 2012.
Yours sincerely
